Governor Zulum expresses fear over merging of NDA, Army varsity

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has called on the Federal Government to cancel its decision to merge the Army University, Biu, Borno State, with the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, as recommended by the Oronsaye Report.

The 2012 Oronsaye Report recommended the merger of government’s ministries, departments and agencies as a measure to cut the cost of governance.

Among other recommendations, it proposed the merger of the new Biu Army University with the decades-old NDA, Kaduna.

Arguing against the merger, Zulum, in a chat with newsmen in Maiduguri on Thursday, said, collapsing the Army University as a Faculty within the NDA will help truncate western education in the region which is the primary mission of Boko Haram.

The governor appealed to President Tinubu to rescind the vision to merge the Army University, Biu, with the Nigerian Defence Academy, noting that Borno State has been facing serious crisis for the last 15 years which hasdenied many children access to education.

Governor Zulum who noted that the implementation of the Oronsaye report, which seeks to cut the cost of governance, was long overdue, described the decision of theTinubu’s government to implement the report as timely, especially now that the government is working to reposition the economy and block leakages.
