The National Judicial Council has raised the alarm over repeated attempts by fraudsters to defraud retired judicial officers of their pensions.
The council claimed that the fraudsters had been bombarding retired judges with phone calls demanding various sums of money to help them fast-track the payment of their retirement benefits.
Director of Information NJC, Soji Oye, who stated this in a statement, distanced the council from the actions of the alleged fraudsters and urged retired judicial officers to be wary so as not to fall victim to these unscrupulous elements.
Oye said retired judicial officers and members of the public should note that the NJC would never demand money from any judicial officer to fast-track the payment of his retirement benefits.

In 2022, six Lagos State retired judges sued the state government and the NJC over their delayed pension.
The retired judges who sued were Justices Samuel Candide-Johnson, Iyabo Kasali, Olaide Olayinka, Doris Okuwobi, Titilola Ojikutu-Rhode and Grace Onyeabo.
