To address the bane of maternal and child mortality rate in Kaduna State, all necessary resources will continue to be channeled in that direction.
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, stated this during the commissioning of Newborn Unit and Oxygen Plant at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital, Kaduna, as part of activities marking the one year anniversary of his administration.
One of the most pressing challenges in Nigeria is the high rate of maternal and child mortality rate in which statistic shows that about seven hundred babies die every day in Nigeria, amounting to approximately thirty newborn deaths every hour.
Out of this, Kaduna State is considered to have the highest neonatal mortality rate in the North-West of Nigeria.
Speaking during the Commissioning ceremony, Governor Uba Sani who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe explained that, the unit will provide comprehensive care for prospective mothers, mothers and their foetuses, through delivery, the immediate postnatal and the neonatal period.
In a bid to address the situation, the State Government, through a partnership with the UNICEF and the Government of Canada has built and equipped an Oxygen and Neonatal Unit in the state to address the alarming statistics.
