The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency has said that 33 communities have been affected by flood destroying about 2,000 houses in the state.
Deputy Director, Relief and Rehabilitation of the agency, Mr Ibrahim Nalado, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Gombe.
Nalado said that the heavy downpour that occurred between August 12 and 22, affected communities in Dukku, Funakaye and Billiri Local Government Areas of the state.
He said the flooding and windstorm affected mostly houses and a few farmlands in the communities, adding that no loss of life was recorded.
Speaking on the impact of flooding on farmlands, the deputy director said Hina community in Yamaltu/Deba LGA of the state was the worst-hit, where 1000 hectares of rice, maize, sorghum and millet farmlands were submerged in water.
Nalado further explained that his agency had assessed the level of damage and were compiling the reports to forward to the state government and other relevant agencies for interventions.
He appealed to the North East Development Commission and the National Emergency Management Agency to support the state government in this regard, while urging the farmers and other persons affected to be patient.
