KDSG distributes free fertilizers to 120,000 farmers in Chikun


As part of efforts to reduce the economic hardship faced by farmers in the State, the Kaduna State Government has commenced the distribution of free fertilizers to 120,000 small holder farmers in Chikun Local Government area of the State.

The benefiting communities for the free fertilizer distribution are from Kakau, Gwagwada, Chikun, Nasarawa and Sabon Gari wards in Chikun Local Government Area.

Speaking at the distribution exercise, a representative of the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency KADA, Zakariya Sabo, said the fertilizer distribution was introduced by the state government to cushion the current hardship being faced by farmers in the state as a result of the high cost of fertilizers.

Zakariya Sabo explained that the first phase of the distribution of the fertilizers to communities in Chikun Local Government Area comprises of a delivery of six hundred bags with each beneficiary getting two bags to help support his or her farming activities.

He expressed confidence in the system citing the ease with which farmers in several wards of the local government can have access to the fertilizers, making it easy for people in the rural areas to benefit from the exercise.

Some of the beneficiaries who expressed gratitude to the state government for the gesture, said the move will help improve their production and the agricultural output of the state.

Recall that the Kaduna state government had earlier distributed over fifteen thousand metric tones of fertilizers to small holder farmers in the state.
