Following the collapse of the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Maiduguri during the September 10 flood that resulted in the escape of jailed Boko Haram members and other convicted criminals, the Borno State Police Command has recently announced the rearrest of one of the escapees, Abubakar Mohammed.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Borno, SP Ahmed Wakil, the police made the rearrest following credible intelligence by a resident who had sighted Abubakar in Gubio town.
It said the police in a swift response by arrested the escaped convict who will be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The statement further explained that efforts are ongoing to locate any other convicted felons who may be in the area.
Reports earlier indicated that no fewer than 280 inmates had escaped from the Maiduguri Medium Security Custodial Centre following severe flooding in the capital city.
