Over 200 inmates escapes Maiduguri correctional facility

Following the severe flooding that hit Borno state, over 200 inmates, including Boko Haram terrorists, bandits, and others, have escaped from the Maiduguri correctional facility.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar who revealed this in a statement confirmed the recapture of seven inmates.

He said the service has released comprehensive details, including biometric data, of the remaining escapees, adding that efforts to locate and return them to custody are being intensified.

Umar disclosed that in a swift response, correctional officers and various security agencies quickly relocated the remaining inmates to a secured facility on the federal government’s orders.

He assured the public that search operations, both covert and overt, are ongoing with multiple security agencies to recapture all the remaining 274 escaped inmates.

The service emphasised that the incident does not threaten public safety, and measures are being intensified to manage the situation effectively.
