In a bid to support the less privileged sickle cell patients of the Sickle Cell Patient Health Promotion Centre (SCPHPC), in Badarawa/Malali ward of Kaduna North local government area of the state, the member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency at the Lower Chamber, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai donated N2m for the sickle cell patients at the centre.
Represented by a permanent member of Kaduna state Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Jamil Haruna, Bello El-Rufai said the money should be used to purchase routine drugs for the patients who could not afford to buy their drugs.
Receiving the donation, the Founder/Coordinator of the Centre, Hajiya Badiya Magaji Inuwa, while appreciating the kind gesture said his kind and generous donation would not be taken for granted.
Hajiya Badiyya said she could not hold her joy when drugs ordered with the money arrived at the centre.
It would be recalled that the Sickle Cell Patient Health Promotion Centre (SCPHPC), which was established 16 years ago, now has over 8,000 patients who benefitted from the free clinical and routine drug services.
SCD affects nearly 100 million people globally and is responsible for over 50% of deaths in those with the most severe form of the disease.
