The Sokoto State Government has constituted Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Committees for mixed and female schools across the state to address the rising cases of abuse.
The Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Professor Mustapha Namakkah said the State Ministry of Education receives no fewer than one hundred reports of abuse in each school term.
Namakkah explained that the goal is to eradicate or significantly reduce the incidents, stressing that the state encounter perpetrators in various capacities.
Inaugurating the committee, the wife of the State Governor, Hajiya Fatima, urged members of the committee to ensure that victims receive justice.
The wife of the governor also advocated for a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment, especially for female students.
