Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has approved N80,000 as the new minimum wage for the state civil servants, effective from November 1, 2024.
The governor also approved an increase in the monthly pension for retirees, as well as a payment of N7 billion for gratuities to reduce outstanding liabilities.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, who stated this in a statement in Yenagoa, noted that Diri acknowledged the challenging times workers face in the state due to the rising cost of living.
It said the related consequential adjustments for the various sectors, as agreed with the leadership of Labour in the state, will be implemented.
The statement concluded that Governor Diri expressed appreciation for the understanding, patience, and commitment civil servants have shown towards his administration’s policies and programmes.
