The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a development partner, Plan International to promote education, gender equality, and protection of the rights of the girl child in the country.
Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande during the signing of the MoU in his office in Abuja, noted the various forms of abuse and challenges faced by girls in Nigeria.
Comrade Olawande stated that the MoU ensures the Ministry and Plan International work together on specific initiatives that promote quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities, empowerment and leadership development for youth and young women in particular.
The Minister further stated that the synergy signifies the Ministry’s commitment to support the development of leadership capacity for the girl child and to create opportunities for them to participate in the decision-making process.
