Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collection in the state.
Governor Okpebholo has also ordered the State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone who flouts the order.
Chief press secretary to the governor, Fred Itua, who stated this in a statement said the governor will review the issues surrounding the collections soon and decide on the way forward.
It said the state Commissioner of Police has been ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenues on behalf of the state government.
The statement explained that the new directives may not be unconnected with the violent clash by some non-state actors over the collection of revenue in the state.
The CPS also stated in a statement that the state Governor has also ordered the freezing of all bank accounts belonging to the state until further notice.
It warned that anyone, including heads of MDAs and civil servants who flout the order will be severely punished.
