Ko Wen-Je charged for accepting bribe

Ko Wen-Je

Taiwan’s former presidential candidate, Ko Wen-Je has been charged for accepting bribes and mis-using political donations.

Mr. Ko was indicated by prosecutors following probes into alleged corruption in the re-development of a centre in Taipei during his time as mayor of the Taiwanese capital and campaign finance irregularities during the presidential run.

The Taipei district prosecutor’s office said that it was seeking a sentence of twenty-eight and half years in prison for Ko, who is accused of accepting over five hundred million dollars in bribe and embezzling donations of more than sixty-eight million dollars.

It could be recalled that a Taipei court ruled that Ko should be released from custody as prosecutors have not met the standard of the court.
