The Jigawa State Government has unveiled plans to construct 10 small dams across the state, to enhance dry-season farming.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Flood Control and Climate Change, Hamza Hadejia, disclosed this during a live radio interactive session with journalists at the Jigawa State Broadcasting House in Dutse.
Hadejia spoke on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s directive for a nationwide review of existing dams to assess their need.
He pointed that the small dam project is not only designed to prevent flooding but also to curb river overflow into farmlands in riverine communities.
The SSG also commended the state government for its approach to tackling the challenges faced by farmers, noting that the project is expected to strengthen the state’s economy and agricultural resilience.
