Banditry; lawmakers urges FG to establish military base in affected communities

House of Representatives

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to establish a military base in Zamfara State communities grappling with banditry.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion moved by Hassan Shinkafi, the lawmaker representing Shinkafi/Zurmi Federal Constituency, during plenary.

Presenting the motion, the People’s Democratic Party legislator decried the escalating security crisis in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, citing increased attacks, killings, maiming, and kidnappings of innocent residents.

Shinkafi highlighted that the state government has been holding regular security council meetings and blocking supply routes used by bandits.

He lamented that over 40 villages have been affected by bandit invasions, forcing residents to flee their homes and leaving communities deserted.
