Nigerian military urges media professionals to be mindful of national security in reportage

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), has called for a strong partnership between the military and the media to promote national security.

Director General, NARC, Major General Garba Wahab (rtd), made the call at a roundtable discussion themed, “National Interest versus National Security: A Quest for Responsible Journalism” with members of the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) in Abuja.

He explained that the event was organised to bridge the gaps that has been observed in the military-media relations, underscoring the need to build trust.

Major General Wahab urged the media to be mindful of its reportage, putting national security into consideration.

He said the military must always engage with the defence correspondents, the guild of editors and media owners who are critical in ensuring accurate reportage and national security.

The NARC Director General also pointed that all the identified layers must work in agreement with the military to be able to project national interest and also ensure the security of the nation.
