Ginger farmers in Kachia LG to receive govt support


Kachia local government, which is known for the best species of ginger has reiterated its commitment toward improving ginger farming in the area for sustainable development.

The council chairman, Dr. Manzo Daniel Maigari stated this during a two days seminar organized by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in Kachia.

Represented by the Director, Agriculture and Natural resources, Mrs Queen Victoria Saidu, the council chairman said the council is determined to support the ginger farmers to continue farming regardless of the challenges they have faced in the past.

Daniel Maigari called on security operatives in the area to improve their efficiency to enable farmers adequately prepare their lands for the farming season.


Earlier, the National President of Ginger Farmers Association of Nigeria, Squadron Leader Nuhu Daudu retired, said the programme was brought to the area to teach farmers on best global agricultural practices and food safety for ginger value chain which will pave the way for international market access for Nigeria.

The national president added that if ginger farming is properly resuscitated, it will improve economic activities in the local government and the country at large.

In a remark, the special assistant to the Jigawa state governor on Basic Education Monitoring, Malam Ado Maje Saleh commended the Ministry, noting that he was at the seminar to learn more about ginger farming and cascade same to the Jigawa state to improve their economic standard.

Speaking, the resource persons of the seminar Emmanuel Oche and Emmanuel Fadeik who presented papers on site history, management as well as crop protection, products and safe use in ginger farming, called on the participants to make good use of what they have learnt.
