Kano State government has revealed that that new cases of Lassa fever have been recorded in the state.
Chief Information Officer of the teaching hospital, Maryam Aminu Usman, said that more than twenty health workers at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, who were exposed to a confirmed case of Lassa fever, have been tested negative and have been discharged from temporary isolation.
Usman added that the hospital acted swiftly after confirming the index case, taking all necessary precautionary measures to prevent the disease’s spread.
Meanwhile, Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, said that the state Centre for Disease Control has deployed a Rapid Response Team to manage the situation.
He confirmed that four cases have been recorded and one fatal, with three others under monitoring despite returning negative lab results.
