National Agriculture Seeds Council has emphasized the importance of quality seeds in achieving food security and unlocking Nigeria’s agri-business potential.
The Director General of the council, Fatuhu Buhari, stated this while receiving handover notes from the outgoing acting Director General of the Council.
He highlighted that seeds are not just the
starting point of agriculture but the cornerstone of a resilient and productive
farming system.
Buhari, who pledged to reposition the
agency as a key player in Nigeria’s food security efforts by strengthening seed
systems and fostering innovation in agriculture, outlined plans to partner with
research institutions and agri-tech pioneers to develop climate-smart seed
varieties that are resilient to changing environmental conditions.
The DG also emphasized the importance of
expanding seed multiplication programs to guarantee affordability and
accessibility for farmers across the country.
